Hi Ralph

It's Tim Thorogood here, friends with your brother Steven.

I thought you may be interested - I visited Hockerill earlier this year and was given permission to walk around at leisure. I took loads of decent photographs showing all the new developments. It was quite a sad day because many teachers had left under clouds and the RS department is no more. You would not recognise School House Boys anymore as not only has the staircase gone but also the access is now a new building called "the Millennium staircase". All of SHB are now classrooms. The old maths block is the 6th form common room and there is now a wonderful astro turf playing field.

I took over 60 hir-res pictures, too many to send by email but I am quite happy to run copies off to anyone who request them. Maybe they could send an SAE or jiffy bag with a £1 in it to cover the CD.

If this sounds of interest give me a shout.

Cheers

Tim

Dear Ralph

I think I remember you, not 100% sure... you were in the year below me I think, probably highly intelligent as this website shows, so we probably made out that you were crazy instead!

I left in 83, from Roxwell, my biggest claim to fame I think was being the last one to be allowed to wear a black blazer (left over from Fyfield) and will not mention being "allowed" to wear full uniform on Saturday afternoons some C or D list thing!

Great site and amazing to remember the past.

Well please register my email for all who wish to contact me, all the best and hope to contact some of you too!

I am now an overseas charity/aid worker, living in Belgrade for the moment, but back in UK, hear Cambridge/Huntingdon quite often

Hello,

I wonder if you could help me. I'm trying to contact an old friend that I grew up with. Her name is/was Sam Nichols and she joined Hockerill School in about 1982 as a 1st/2nd year. I have found her name on your year list. She was in Roding.

I would appreciate it if you could let me know if anyone knows of her whereabouts.

Thank you.

Regards - Gillian Thomas

My name is Don Boxall, and I currently live in Hope, British Columbia, Canada.
I attended Hockerill School around 1944, which seems to be before you and your associates started keeping records about the school.
But I thought you might be interested in a real "old boy" I'm now aged 66.
When I went to school in Bishops Stortford I lived at Great Hallingbury, and usually rode to school by bus, or walked in good weather, or hitch-hiked.
The only name of a friend that I can remember now is Wilfrid (Wilfred?) Partington - I wonder if he still lives in the area? Perhaps you could check your 'phone book?
Thanks for listening!
Regards, Don Boxall (dondot@uniserve.com)

Hi Ralph,

Have to congratulate you on a fantastic site, brought back so many memories from the place. Terry Southam told me about the site and I finally found it, also shocked to see about the re-union that was held at the Jack & Jenny and the Albert pub's in Witham as I live about 4 minutes from each !!!

Any old scholars living in the Witham area, would love to get in touch with you !

I have attached a few photo's for use on the site, hope they are of help. I have included one of myself and my son (If you couuld put it with my message)

I will definately check back often to keep up to date, in the mean time, keep up the good work.

Take care all,

Ralph

I dont know whether or not you remember me but I think and hope you do. I was in the same year and as you did, spent a year at Fyfield then moved to Hockerill.

I was pleased to find your site, however I think your later, 30 something, photo is more how I remeber you than the earlier one. I apologise now if this offends you, it certainly isn't meant to.

Needless to say Iam over 30 and have been a long way and done a lot since the best days of my life at boarding school. You may recall I left at the end of my 2nd year and I am sad about that even today, it would have been good to stay on and finish my schooling at Hockerill. Although living in the Florida Keys for 8 years wasn't all bad.

I would be interested in any reunions etc that may be planned, it would certainly be good to hear from you and anyone else who remembers me. I recognise a lot of the names but less I can put faces to. However I found an black and white photo that "Chubbs" gave me before we left Fyfield and I was able to identify most of the faces. Have you ever heard anything about him?

If you are ever in the area of Hull let me know it would be great to catch up with you, presumably you no longer live on a boat or do you? I dream of it but currently inhabit bricks and mortar, I suspect my girlfriend prefers this form of accomodation. Do you still reside in Essex, my parents and brothers still do.

Anyway I'll leave it there for the time being.

Regards
Chris Butters

Hi mate.
Long time no see. I doubt if you remember me from school, but I'm the only one in the Roxwell boys photo 1982/83 who not only isn't named, but doesn't even have a "?" where my name should be. (For the record, that's back row, third in from left, between Tony Mead & Norman Bates... er, I mean Briggs)By the way, my name is Paul Cowley, but I was better known as Tigger back then.
I'll have a look round for any other old photo's I can find and scan them/e-mail to you as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime have you heard anything from any of my old crowd? (Mainly Tony "Tree Trunk" Mead, Justin "Jaws" Dear, Simon Perrott, or Nathaniel "Neuf" Spens) You probably had the same intentions as me when you left school - that is you meant to keep in touch with everyone you met there - but as time goes by, you slowly lose contact with all of them one by one, until you suddenly realise you haven't heard from any of them for years.
Anyway, it's good to see that someone's set up an old scholars website, so well done for that, and if you or any of the other old scholars who were there at the same time as us are ever in the Clacton area, tell them to look me up for a drink. It'd be nice to see any of them again after all this time.
Also, please let me know of any reunions planned for our year.

Thanks a lot, and once again well done for setting this contact point up.

Best regards,

Paul

Dear Ralph!

I've only just found this site having joined the School Reunited web site and being totally blown away to see so many there I recognised! I have to say, you've done an awesome job here, Thank You so much for all your time and effort to preserve so many memories!

I was at Hockerill between 1982 and 1987 (Chelmer Girls) My maiden name was Dolly Harland. I'm ashamed to say I've lost contact with everyone from my year, something I thought I would never do. I recently bumped into Shane Howard, at college where I am studying, he was booked in to be our class support teacher for the session! (He hasnt changed a single bit!!!)

A little bit me I guess... Im now single and separated from my husband, whom I met through Sian McCarthy some 10 or 11 years ago. I have a son, Oliver who is now 7 and is my absolute world. Ive done various jobs over the last 12 years, from fast food management to running a pub & owning my own business. Currently I'm at college on an Access to Health course and am awaiting the results of my interview to University (APU) to train to be a midwife (My life goal)

I would dearly love to make contact with friends from Hockerill, so please feel free to add my name to your email list (under the name of Dolly Harland please)

I have a batch of photo's to send you, which will probably be best sent in 3 batches, most of them are from my year ('87) although there are a few from '86 & '88.

Again, thank you Ralph for this wonderful site! Great stuff!!

Dear Ralph,
May I first congratulate you on a fantastic website, it certainly brings back a lot of memories. I was at Hockerill from 1991-1996, and was in Thames House. Looking back, it was a tremendous and enjoyable experience to be at hockerill and I certainly miss some aspects of being there.

Currently I am in my final year at APU in chelmsford, studying accounting. I finish this summer and expect to be unemployed real soon!

I would just like to say hi to anyone who remembers me, feel free to drop me an email.

Thanks again for putting in the effort to produce a great website

Hi,
My names Rachel Tan and I've just looked through your website. I obviously don't know you as I was part of the class of '98. I thought it was a great website although I couldn't relate to a lot of the photo's as they are of a different generation. Anyway I'm currently at Loughborough university studying Engineering. I'm in my 2nd year and still I'm reminising about the good old days at Hockerill! I probably had some of the best years of my life there.

Anyway congrats for creating the website.
Love Rachel.
Ps. Could you please put my name on the website under 1998. Thanks
PPS I've attached a photo of myself and my current boyfriend steve.

Ralph,
I have been a member of Friends Reunited for a while but have just cotton'd on to the fact that I could also tap into the Hockerill site.
I think my phone bill is about to soar as I have found so many pupils I would like to hear/read more about, mainly those who went through School House Girls and latterly Thames Girls (I moved from School House to TG in 1988).

As I was Housemistress of School House Girls for 8 years I have many memories of the "New Girls" and what's more I have an album of photos for each year! Are you interested? I suspect you could inflict a substantial number of embarrassments on a significant number of what by now must be Mums! I would love to share some of these photos with you if you think others might be interested.

I left Hockerill in 1995, went to Chelmsford College for a year (much to the embarrassment of pupils who also joined that year) and then moved to Goring on Thames (not far from the old Kennylands site) in 1996 when I married Ian. I have not returned to teaching but am now a civil servant working in Oxford.

Would be very pleased to provide as much (or as little) input to your site as you think fit.

Best wishes
Margaret King (Johnson)
